Built in 1889, the tent-shaped canopy is supported by cast- iron columns decorated with a “honeysuckle” mo f based on ancient art forms. There were originally two bandstands on The Leas, one demolished was opposite The Grand and Metropole Hotels. The one remaining is opposite Cli on Gardens and adjacent to the Leas Cli  Hall.

Re-enactors play the parts of the famous comedy duo and re-create the scene from their historic visit in 1947 when they re-opened the Dungeness line a er the Second World War. Witness Doctor Syn carrying Black Prince name plates on this rare occasion as would have been seen on the comedian’s original visit.
